All the same

It’s odd that textile people all want to look the same, and how nudists and naturists have mastered that.

What do I mean by that?

As I’ve often gone on about, it’s the fashion industry, which is doing its best to destroy our environment without telling anyone.

A new person has a new idea for a new line of clothing, and once that’s gotten

enough attention, everyone runs to the store to get it. To look the same. For this, the garment(s) come in lots of sizes, to make sure that every different body can look the same. I guess the basic idea behind this is that a model shows the item, and once you wear it, you look like the model. Presto, no diet or gym required! It’s like magic!

Say this to the clothies and they will laugh at you, probably, because they are all their own person with their own clothes.

Really?

Now let’s look at the non-clothies. That’s us, the ones who like to run around in the nude. It is my conviction that we’ve achieved what the clothies want with all their attempts to look the same.

Naked people nude beach — They’re all the same…

If you look closely, you can see that all the people up there look the same. They’re all nude and happy, ready for a plunge into the water. And are they ‘the same’? No, they’re all different in their similarity. It’s the attitude that makes them (hence us) the same.

We all show the real ‘us’, instead of attempting to impersonate a model that’s being brushed up and photoshopped to be “perfect” (meaning “showing something that’s impossible to attain for anyone, even the model itself).

This was something I thought of suddenly, on the way home from an onsite visit to a customer. I’m glad I have a way to share this with the world. So, world, what are your thoughts about this?

Nude is addictive

I hate to break this news to you, but it is. At least for me.

Over the last few weeks we had a lot of warm and hot days. 25C to 28C, add about 55 for Fahrenheit, and you’ll be close enough.

That kind of weather warms up my apartment rapidly, and it makes me lose my clothes at the same rate. Working from home, only meeting people via video-conferencing, makes that easy. Just have a shirt handy for those video-calls.

Until there is the need to go on-site to a customer. Then the big world insists on clothes again. And then I find how addictive being nude is. Clothes feel like an insult after a few days of none of them. That only gets worse when that number of days goes up.

After such an on-site visit, I don’t know how fast I should get out of that cloth prison again. It’s amazing how extra hot my body feels when the heat from the outside world comes in and has no way to escape.

Why can’t we all be ‘au naturel’ when the weather’s right for it? When I see how climate is changing (climate change deniers, please stop reading here), the world that I’ve depicted in “Nude in Space” seems to get ever closer. The idea of villages where everyone lives nude is great, but the other side of the medal (and you know that if you read the book) is that life is being made impossible on Earth. And the tragedy is that ‘life’ is doing that to itself.

Let’s hope things don’t get that far (the impossible part). Just the naturist / nude people villages. I can’t wait for those to pop up. The more the better!

Meanwhile I’ll avoid clothes as much as I did over the last weeks, as long as the weather is beneficial to that!

Kids Kamp 2022 – Naturally science

There is a great initiative going to get kids to camp. And not just any camp, but a nudist camp.

I heard about this initiative while listening to the New Nudist Podcast.

First off, and don’t hold this against me, I have nothing with “children”. I never wanted them of my own and I have succeeded in that very well. That being said, I know the value of children, and what they can mean for ‘us’, being humanity.

The podcast is one long interview with Rick Sloan, the person who started Kids Kamp over a decade ago. Don’t be alarmed, it’s a very interesting and informative interview. The things that are talked about all touched me.

The health aspect of our lifestyle.
The mentioning of a therapist who suggested a family to visit a nudist resort!
The opportunity for children to learn and experience something first hand.

Sherwood forest in the news.

Maybe you caught it too, the hoolabaloo around Sherwood Forest in Nottingham, UK. Maybe you aren’t interested in the antics of Robin Hood. This is not about Robin hood.

This is what it’s about:

Nudists spotted in Sherwood Forest

It was in the Nottingham Post last Friday. A bunch of non-nudists had complained about seeing nude people in the forest.

All the upheaval boiled down to nothing, which is good, although the textile community is still up in arms about it, probably.

In England, nudity is legal as long as the nude person(s) are not making a nuisance of themselves. See the official UK Crown Prosecution Service site.

The funny thing about this, when you look closely enough, is that the good and dressed people of Nottingham are screaming that this is illegal.

If they knew the law, or at least make the effort of looking it up, they would see that they’re wrong.

(But who would want to look for their own wrong, right?)

British Naturism

Donna Price, British Naturism’s coordinator for Women in Naturism, had a video talk with a talkRadio host about the stir this all caused. At the moment of writing, there is a link to the talk here. Click at own risk, it might have been removed.

As so often, the biggest issue was that ‘people don’t want to see this’.

I think they should learn that the world isn’t just about what they want, but that there are other people with other views and ideas. If they don’t want to see this, they should look elsewhere. I have never been to Sherwood Forest, but if Robin Hood could stay hidden from the soldiers so long, it must be big enough for every kind of person.

Nudists were not and are not ‘ruining’ the forest, as the banner on the image states. That’s just in people’s one-track minds.

Unfortunately. Because there are so many of them.

There’s a revolution that needs to happen

I saw this a while ago and had to save it. When I started writing this post, I heard just the latest episode of the Naturist Living Show and I remembered this image.

So what do these two have in common for me?

Naturism and nature

Most of the time I treat naturism and nudism as the same thing, simply because it’s easy. Now, however, for this post, I tear them apart. And here’s why.

Nudism for me is the desire to be naked as much as possible, wherever. To enjoy the feeling of being clothes-free, at home, inside, outside, anyside. (And yes, I just made that up.)

Naturism for me is the desire to be in touch with nature as much as possible, in the most natural state of being. This, you guessed it, is naked.

Being naked and as much in touch with nature always makes me fall in love with nature. For simply being able to be there, for feeling in my proper place. For the sheer exhilaration of sensing everything nature throws at me without being fenced off by roofs, clothes and stuff like that.

As the poster at the top says, it’s a revolution that starts inside us. I don’t believe that anyone wants to be nude without an inner desire, a drive, a sense of wanting it. In that respect nudism and naturism line up perfectly. Nudism, I might say, is the first step. Being nude. Natural. Naturism takes it a step further by being nude in nature.

But nudists can be in nature too!

I hear you. Nudists visit nude beaches, nudist resorts, nude venues and play nude volleyball / petanque / tennis etc.

Absolutely true and more be the power to them.

The difference here, for me, is that naturists are trying to be more aware of nature. Of the lifestyle they are carrying. Of respect and care.

If you, dear nudist reader, feel that nudists do the same as naturists, then that’s wonderful. I’m simply laying out the difference for me.

Ecologically responsible

I am convinced that people being naked in nature is the best thing that can happen to nature. It puts us in our place the way we naturally are. Clothes make you less vulnerable and therefore more prone to damaging nature. Rough nature that damages your skin? A solid coat or shirt handles that. Difficult ground? Massive boots solve that. A terrain is hard to get through? Joe, hand me that bulldozer.

The natural human

I understand that sometimes things like that need to happen in the name of advancement, but the way humanity is abusing our planet at the moment, with plastic crap everywhere (even in our food!) and pollution all around us, we’re not doing anyone or anything a favour.

Falling in love with nature might be the best thing that can happen.

When you love something, you care about it, you nurture it, make it better. You don’t rip it apart for most profit.

In the podcast which I mentioned above, Stephane mentions ‘Ethical naturism’. I think that captures all my words in a very nice way. Still, my words will stay up here.

A naturist’s view on nudism. (And naturism!)

Nudism. Naturism.

Is there a difference? I know that in most of the US of A the words are used interchangeably.

I also know that in Europe, for instance, the two words are used differently. Naturism appeared after nudism. I’ve been thinking about those two words recently.

Thoughts on the difference.

Nudist bowling alley Nudism. The word has ‘nude’ as its base. Being nude. Like the people in the image on the right, playing bowling, having a clothes free, good time. Great for them, and if you’d ask me I’d join them in an instant. For one it’s a great way to be socially nude, and for another it would be nice to practice bowling again. (I truly suck at it.)

Naturism. The word has ‘nature’ at its base. Being with/part of nature, like the people

Naked mountaineering on the left. Naked in nature, being part of it and experiencing it that way. Exposing themselves to the real, rough world in their own vulnerability. It’s a way to get things into perspective.

An average human, in clothing (be it protective or not), will consider himself or herself master of the world, maybe because we’ve conquered just about everything. How untrue such a statement is when you’re naked and perhaps even afraid!

We’ve not conquered things. We’re adjusting them – and often with disastrous results, like the acid rain the world faced and still faces, climate change, and earthquakes that happen because we empty the earth below us from fossil fuels.

Can you be a nudist and a naturist?

I think that’s perfectly possible. Being naked in and around your house, whenever that’s possible, makes you a nudist (in my view at least). Enjoying the outside in the nude, being close to and having respect for nature (one of the pillars of naturism according to the INF) makes you a naturist.

More and more I feel like dropping all those words and labels. Be who you really are. Be naked and nude and a nudist and a naturist and clothes-free. As long as you feel good about it and you don’t intend to shock others when you’re in your natural state.

A naturist’s view on clothing

What? Clothing? Yes. It’s the stuff we have to hang around ourselves in most of our daily lives to be ‘acceptable’.

You know, the comfortable stuff that can make sitting, walking and moving so unpleasant. It’s something the world has bestowed upon us all for the sake of ‘decency’ and ‘normality’. Because everyone’s born dressed, right? 😉

Why textile?

First of course there’s the obvious reason. Staying warm. Contrary to popular belief that should be the reason for our fabric prisons. Not fashion, not being hip, not being pretty. Staying warm. I’ve seen people take that to extremes. Imagine a summer day, nice and toasty, of about 30C / 86F. You’re sweating because it’s so warm, despite you are down to the bare acceptable minimum. And then you see someone on a bicycle in long pants, a sweater and… a coat.

Or something like this gentleman, having a blast at the beach:

There is a time and a place for everything but if he’s not there for a wedding then I wonder what got into him. (At least he took his shoes off.)

Why dress up when there’s no need for it?

I keep wondering about that. What’s this strange clothing-addiction good for? It’s expensive and most of the time uncomfortable. People who say it’s comfortable have been brainwashed by their bodies for so long that they can’t tell the difference any more.

Give me the freedom of no clothes when possible. I am not the only one. It’s with a reason that in Munich, Germany there are several parks that have clothing optional areas, and since a while there’s a huge park in Paris, France that allows the same.

Check out a nude beach in summer and you’re going to find many naked people. People who shed their garments as soon as they can.

Clothes? I think they’re highly overrated. Brainwash and hogwash. Nude’s good. Nude’s honest. Nude has nothing to hide.

A naturist area in Paris

Paris goes naked.

Yes, we’ve all heard of it by now. Paris has a naturist area in one of the parks. At the Bois de Vincennes, to be precise. It happened on August 30th of this year. Now don’t get your French knickers in a knot. This isn’t a permanent place yet.

So far it’s meant to be an experiment which will last until October of this year, as laid out in this article.

Signs of something good. And safety.

Paris, 30 August 2017 (AFP) – a “space for les” opens from Thursday and until 15 October in the bois de Vincennes (15th arrondissement), learned on Wednesday the AFP from sources sources .
“the provision of a space in the bois de Vincennes where the practice of naturisme is allowed to participate in an open vision of the use of parisian public spaces”, explains Penelope Komites, Deputy to the green spaces of the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo.
Space, which is intended to be an experiment, will be open from Thursday at the beginning of the afternoon, and then every day from 08 am to 19 pm until 15 October.
Framed by signs, the space of 7.300 m² will be located near the ornithological reserve of the bois de Vincennes, within the clearing between the royal driveway and the dauphine road.
The nudity and tranquillity of the users of space and des will have to be respected, no attitude or attitude will be tolerated… “a charter will be displayed around space for walkers and joggeurs to be warned”, Assures Julien Claude-Pénégry, responsible for the development of urban spaces within the association of naturistes de Paris (Anp).

Good steps.

I think it’s a good move on behalf of the French. Nudism flourishes in France; lots of people escape there for their naked fix, so it makes sense. And no, Paris isn’t the first town to have a (temporary for now) relaxed attitude towards nudists and naturists. München, Germany, has several of such places already and those are not temporary.

I’d really appreciate more towns all around the world to make this possible for our lifestyle. Maybe, now Paris has come around a little (I first want to see that this park remains open for naturism permanently), there’s good hope that more places will follow. I’m sure I am not alone in this hope!

A while ago I was listening to a podcast. I sometimes do that because podcasts can be cool. The podcast in question was about secrets and how secrets affect people. It’s uncanny and fascinating to learn how much of a burden a secret can be for a person.

Nudity

So what does this podcast have to do with naturism, nudism and all other kinds of recreational nudity?

Believe it or not, but the podcast mentions nudists and the possibility that they are feeling better about themselves when they don’t keep their naturist/nudist lifestyle a secret from other people. Which makes sense. If you don’t need to hide your lifestyle, there’s no need to be ‘careful’ about it. This means no burden of a secret, which in turn means an easier, more care-free life.

Do you agree, or…?

Do you agree with this statement? Do you feel happy with your lifestyle because people around you, also the perpetually clothed, know about your nudism? And if you don’t feel safe to tell everyone about it, how does that make you feel? I’m very curious…

A very strange way to put it

A very strange advertisment.

I have a few Google alerts going pertaining to naturism and nudism. You know the general things anyone should be interested in. A few days ago I got a notification about an ad on ‘Craig’s list’, which I know to be quite popular in the USA.

One line in that ad struck me. Maybe it’s just the way someone didn’t know how to put it properly but the line “I am a normal, educated, and kind white male but I have always been interested in naturism” made me frown.

Two nudists This line. The person putting that ad together made it sound as if nudism is something a “a normal, educated, and kind white male” shouldn’t be dealing with.

I probably make too much of this but it’s in the words. I write books. Words and their order are important. So why would this kind white male use ‘but’ here?

Is there something wrong with nudism, with the desire to take off one’s clothes?

Apparently the kind, white male has done it before, since he adds, “the feeling of ultimate freedom when you take off that last piece of clothing.”

He’s clearly done it before – or he’s copying some text from somewhere, which I don’t believe. It’s an interesting way to put this all down. The gentleman is specifically looking for a lady to go to a nudist venue, beach, resort with him, which gives me the feeling there’s something more he’d like to explore, but to each their own.

For me the entire thing would be more credible had that simple “but” been a “and“.

Not an excuse.

Nudism should not be an excuse to go naked. It is among the best feelings in the world, and we all know it. No restraints, just fresh air and sunlight on your skin.

And the company of nice people. I’ve said it before: most nudists are the nicest people I’ve met. I am not counting the people who visit nude venues just to stare, that might be clear.
