Nudist in the house.

It can be, and is, a real thrill to be sneaky about nudity. There’s always the chance of getting caught. There’s the risk of what might happen. A lingering question of, “How far can I go?”

But that’s not what we’re really asking. We’re really asking, “What would it be like to live like this all the time?” The issue is admitting it to ourselves and acting on it.

It’s scary admitting something personal. Especially when a game or passing fancy turns out to play a very active role in our lives. What it comes down to is knowing ourselves and our families.

Honesty is a key component of nudity and a healthy family. It’s unreasonable to be 100% honest. There are some things our families may not want to know or understand. But it doesn’t matter as long as we are being honest with ourselves.

Nudism isn’t about hiding who we are. It’s about finding out more about ourselves and enjoying our life. If we find we enjoy being nude in whatever form it takes, we need to admit it to ourselves and embrace it as part of our lives.

If nudity is a part of our life, then we should find what our families think of it. If they are okay with it then our time of sneaking about might be over. Then let’s see how far can we go?

It’s a big, brave world out there with endless possibilities. Don’t let dishonesty and fear hold you back from what you enjoy.

A girl, raped at a French camping place

You may not be able to read this. It’s a shot from a French newspaper site. It announced that a young girl was raped at a camping. You can find the original article (in French) here. (The person who apparently did it was found and taken into custody.)

The reason that I bring this to your attention is that this did not happen at a nudist camping. There are lots of nudist/naturist campings and resorts in France and I have yet to hear about something like this happen there. This doesn’t mean it can’t or won’t happen, but it struck me when reading about it that it happened at a textile camping.

The fear of naked?

nudist camp life Pondering along about this I wonder if this would have happened at a nudist camping if the perp had been around that. It would mean he’d have to be naked as well – otherwise he’d have stuck out like a sore thumb.

People with filth like this on their mind will always try to operate without being seen. And being seen is something that will definitely happen when walking around naked somewhere. You will be seen. People like us don’t mind that. We’re fine, we’re in the clear, and we know why we’re naked. I think that rapists will feel strongly against being visible like that.

What do you think? Am I thinking along the wrong track?

This stuff bothers me.

wcs Yes. This. This stuff bothers me. Not the fact that this is a billboard like thousand others, but the fact that a company that sells online sex is allowed to do this. In public.

Everyone knows what this is about. Nude people in exchange for money. This is allowed while nude people for free, otherwise known as nudists or naturists, should be very careful where they ‘exhibit’ themselves.

Nude in park Naturism isn’t forbidden in my country, something I am very grateful for. It’s still not considered ‘normal’ by most people but I don’t want to dwell on that. Being naked in ‘designated areas’ is allowed, and the term ‘designated area’ is quite liberal if you look at the law.

Still it irks me to see that companies are free to display their business anywhere in the street and along the motorways. As you can see on the first image. Webcamsex. Putting that stuff up there makes it okay. Normal. Acceptable. Inviting, also to the younger public. The way to teach them that nakedness is something you pay for, something exciting.

Why would there be a movement that promotes nakedness and nudity as something normal and healthy if you can make money of making it something special?

Nudity should not be dragged into the gutter like that.

Nudity, nudism, naturism, call it what you want, should be recognised as something wholesome, something that is not connected to lewdness and porn. I can only hope that the billboards like the one up there won’t be around for too long because they infuriate me. There is one not far from where I live. I pass it twice a workday and each time it makes my blood boil.

You may wonder why I bring up historical fiction. If you did then you didn’t see this post in which I explain this a bit.

I’ve taken it upon myself to write a historical fiction story with naturist elements. It’s finally moving towards something. At the start of this I had not thought it would be so difficult to write…

Moving through genres

Compared to Naked Crow (which isn’t very easy either since I want to keep things credible), the historical naturist fiction piece proves to be one of the tougher writing jobs I ever put onto myself.

Whether or not you, the readers, will like the story or not, I’m glad that I picked this up. And why? For the challenge. For the moving beyond boundaries. We all need to grow. When you and I first dropped our clothes and found we enjoyed it, that was a step in our development. Growth. Nudity became our norm.

Beyond boundaries

I’ve been writing since several years, and when I first had the idea of writing naturist fiction (I’d been a naturist since a long time then already) that was pushing against a boundary. After several naturist books, like the four Naked Crow books and certainly Mirror Earth, I feel good about pushing against another boundary. Going back in time, picking an era and write about that. I’m not going to tell you what era it is nor how I put naturism into it, but the fact that it’s working makes me feel good. It tells me that I can do this. Perhaps I don’t yet do it well, but time and readers will be the judge of that.

Since I’m talking about writing (well, writing about writing actually!) I’ll grab the opportunity that Naked Crow 5 is currently looked over by a fellow author. After he’s done with it I can start making corrections and the book will come out quite soon after that. (Did I hear sighs of relief there? 😉 )

It doesn’t stop. How nudity keeps being linked to sex and worse – porn.

Simply being naked is not about sex.

This has nothing to do with sex or porn... — This has nothing to do with sex or porn…

I know, everyone who visits my site regularly is entirely aware of that. Nudity and sex aren’t the same thing. Nudity is the absence of clothes because the naked person does not want to have clothes on. This concept seems to become more and more incomprehensible lately. Our modern society seems to slip back in time for some reason. Nakedness is bad. Drone thinking is promoted to keep people under control and going in the way that some big power points out.

Free thinking out of the clothes.

This is something that makes naturists dangerous, I presume. Naturists don’t fit in all the way with their odd desire to take all their clothes off and show their bodies to the world. A world that secretly loves to ogle and drool over naked bodies, but which is denied their additional compound as these naked bodies refuse to supply the porn and lewdness that are associated with them.

Naturists aren’t about that. We fight an uphill battle because many porn mongers pretend to be naturists and nudists while spreading their mess all over the Internet, giving us a bad name.

It’s a sad world that most clothes-loving people are so brainwashed into that. This makes it very difficult for true naturists to be seen and recognised, let alone respected and accepted. It’s in the human mind to easily think the worst of someone or something, and with the bad examples so very present everywhere the porn-induced minds will ‘naturally’ expect naturists to be on the same shit heap as the porn industry.

United we stand.

Yes, it’s a beaten to death statement but it’s real and true. The global naturist society has to make a stand, one stand, to the outside world. Double standards, hidden (lewd) agendas from one or the other will break our credibility, and that’s already a difficult item to get across.

Yes, it’s something that worries me and occasionally almost gives me a headache, like it does to the lady on the right. She clearly was a nudist long ago and foresaw the troubles I’m writing about here and now.

Why does it have to be so difficult to just be the way we want to be? I’ve said it before and will say it again: the world’s a mad house when people are more frightened of a naked person than of someone who’s armed to the teeth. Violence, murder, war, all kinds of misery are laughed at when they show on television, but the sky falls down when there’s a female nipple on the screen for a second. And a completely naked person? Nearly incredible.

I wonder how certain television shows get away with not being considered porn. Perhaps because they’re based on artistic content?

Flu and the crazy ideas it gives me

Flu. It’s not funny.

A few weeks ago I was in the dumps because of our friend the flu. Felt horrible, awful, and didn’t get up for 5 days.

Of course I need to add here that I did not get a flu shot. I only got those twice and each time I got violently ill. Blaming the shots for that was a bad idea apparently, because this time I got seriously ill with the vicinity of a shot.

Crazy ideas.

Apparently my brain was in turmoil for a while during those first 5 days of badness. At some point – I don’t exactly recall when but that doesn’t matter – I almost woke up from an avalanche of images that had been churning through my head and that sort of gave me an idea for a new naturist story. I grabbed my notepad (always have one next to the bed) and scribbled down what I could remember of the idea. Then I collapsed into the void of the flu once again.

Historical fiction.

So far the books I wrote and am writing are in the fantasy and science fiction realm. I love those two genres and I think I can do them pretty well.

This new idea is in the Historical Fiction genre. For those who aren’t aware of what that it, historical fiction describes things from history (obviously). Usually it involves well known places or people. Think for instance of books about King Arthur, Jeanne d’Arc, a war, or perhaps even the assassination of John F. Kennedy. The story doesn’t have to deal with that actual event but the event can take place during the course of the story. It’s that easy to write historical fiction, but it also makes it difficult because you have to get the facts right. Anyone can believe a bug-eyed, yellow monster coming from Pluto to devour our clothes, but for instance claiming that Marilyn Monroe always appeared naked on the set of her films… most people know that’s not true.

The story in my head

The story I came up with in my flu-ridden dream doesn’t deal with any of those subjects. So far it doesn’t feel like a difficult or complicated story, more something light and easy; something short.

I am definitely going to develop that idea and see where it leads me (and you). So far the future of the story is still in veils, as is the naked lady on the right. She’s from the right era of my story, I think, so for a while I’ll keep her as the mascot for the new book.

I’ve never thought that I would ever find a way to write something in the historical fiction genre concerning nudism/naturism. No matter how this story will end up, I’m thrilled that something actually appeared for it.

Unashamed Nudists: Exploiting the Theme of Nudism in the 1930s

The technical definition of exploitation movies is cheaply made pictures distributed by roadshowmen or by local independents called states’-righters. A major studio was opening, in those days [the 1930s and 1940s], 400 prints. An exploitation picture never had more than 15 or 20, and they moved around from territory to territory…[1] (David Friedman)

Wikipedia defines “Exploitation film” as a “film which is generally considered to be low budget, and therefore apparently attempting to gain financial success by “exploiting” a current trend or a niche genre or a base desire for lurid subject matter” [2]. According to exploitation producer David Friedman, “exploitation pictures are as old as film itself” [1]. It is not surprising that “many exploitation genres relied on nudity as a source of spectacle” [3]. Eric Schaefer, an author of “meticulously researched, interdisciplinary study” of exploitation films [3], calls the “nudist films” (something about “unashamed nudists”) one of the “cornerstone genres of classical exploitation focused on the spectacle of the nude body”.

Recently, while browsing Internet Archive (which is a “non-profit digital library with the stated mission of “universal access to all knowledge” [4,5]), I came across the classical exploitation “nudist film” called “Expose of The Nudist Racket” (see [6]; it also can be found on Vimeo [7] and YouTube [8]). It was filmed in 1938 for “Hollywood Producers and Distributors”. Producer is, in fact, unknown. The Short Format film is now distributed under Creative Commons license (Attribution 3.0).

In the first half of the 1930s, the American press considered nudism mostly unfavorably. “Crude jokes were made and the reporters liked nothing better than going to a nudist camp and teasing the members for a story, which was usually written up in disrespectful ways”. Later “nudism came to be viewed by the press as a benign, if unconventional, practice” [3].

Film producers used different strategies “for bringing nudism to screen”, in order to “legitimize” the subject. For example, it could be a pseudoscientific, “anthropological approach” with references to “customs among primitive peoples” [3]. The “Expose of The Nudist Racket” took a different attitude. The creators of the film tried to be funny employing “titles and narration for comic effect”. Jokes about fat women are the height of their humor capacity.

Eric Schaefer admits that “some spectators went to see the films to satisfy their curiosity about the nudist movement” , but he insists that “the nudist exploitation films were designed to create sexual arousal in, or at the very least titillate, viewers”. However, “despite the exploitation films’ sexualization of nudism, the nudist’s advocacy of sunshine and simplicity of life found an ideal vehicle for expression in the movies, in part because of their overlapping ideology” [3]. “Nudism was presented as a middle-class lifestyle option” and “a possible antidote to modern life”. The nudist films pointed to the “precedent of social nudity in ancient Greece, which was “simple” yet highly “civilized” according to modern standards”.

“Expose of The Nudist Racket” can convince you that time goes by, but nothing changes. The nudists still want “publicity for their movement”, while the second word in a word-combination “social nudity” remains the key one for most people.

Nudity. British guidance.

On Twitter I found a link to this website: Nudity in Public – Guidance on handling cases of Naturism. It’s a British website.

The first section is already interesting, and… alarming:

Naturism is used to describe the activities of persons who espouse nudity as part of their lifestyle. Whilst many naturists will restrict their activities to specially designated areas and/or places where there is a tradition of naked activity, such as nudist beaches, others may wish to enjoy nudity more widely.

In the case of naturism a balance needs to be struck between the naturist’s right to freedom of expression and the right of the wider public to be protected from harassment, alarm and distress.

I am not sure how ‘harassment’ made it to this list. When someone like us, a real naturist, is lying in the grass somewhere to enjoy the sun, is that harassing someone? I understand that the clothing-only society can be “alarmed” when seeing someone naked. Plenty of people will feel distress when they look at a nude body. It’s sad but it’s how the world ticks at the moment. But harassment?

Nude in park Is there some general fear that nudists will run up to clothed people and shake their breasts or genitals in front of their faces?

That’s more the expertise of exhibitionists, I’d say, but I’m not one of those so I speak without experience in that area.

Luckily the website clarifies this a little in the next section:

In the absence of any sexual context and in relation to nudity where the person has no intention to cause alarm or distress it will normally be appropriate to take no action unless members of the public were actually caused harassment, alarm or distress (as opposed to considering the likelihood of this).

Here is the problem of words versus people again of course. When do we speak of harassment? Some people can’t be harassed by anything, others feel harassed already when you say you heard a child’s doll fart. We’re in a tough line of life-style, folks.
