Stoicism and nudity

Last week I ran into a wonderful quote from Seneca:

Let us get used to dining out without the crowds, to being a slave to fewer slaves, to getting clothes only for their real purpose, and to living in more modest quarters. – Seneca

Seneca

I got you at the ‘clothes only for their real purpose’, didn’t I?

If not, let me tell you that this was the part that stood out to me.

Many people have either not heard of stoics or they have the wrong idea about them. Stoics were not people who never had any fun. Those are doomsday-thinkers who only stare into some dark abyss.

Stoics understood (and still understand) that everything ends, and that you should enjoy and accept what you can while it happens. It will end. If you frantically hunt down all the fun you can, as if your life depends on it, and suddenly there is no fun, then your life will come crashing down. That’s not good.

That’s what modern society seems to be all about, for decades. We want and need more and more. Two cars, three fridges, another house, a fifth mortgage. Okay, that last part isn’t so much fun, but you get the picture.

I think that goes with nudism, naturism, clothes-freeism, whateverism in that respect as well.

Be nude if you can. Wear clothes if you need them. Summer will end, so clothes come into view. Winter will end, so nudity comes back. There’s no use in crying over a lost summer or the coming of the cold: that won’t change things. It happens.

The more you have, the more you can lose. Don’t lose the freedom to choose wisely. Take what you can, without being unjust or greedy. Be happy with what you can have.

Like having a good, nude time as much as you can.

Such an important message…

I found this message on Twitter and had to post it here.

Naturism.

Imagine being 75 and you’re thinking about your life.

How you never swam nude in the ocean on a warm night because your thighs jiggled. You never laughed until you couldn’t breathe, because your teeth weren’t straight or white enough. You never embraced the sun on your entire body because of the stretch marks on your stomach and hips. You never allowed yourself to let go and have fun, because the pressure to loo perfect consumed you.

Imagine being 75 and realising you’ve hidden yourself away for the fear of being real Imagine realising all the years you wasted hating yourself – but now it’s too late. Now it hurts to laugh for more than a few seconds, and you’re too weak to travel to the beach. Imagine realising all this time you were perfect the way you are.

Don’t let that happen.

Live now, as you are. You deserve to realise you’re enough, and always have been, before you’re 75.

A nude Christmas in lockdown

It’s weird, but Christmas is almost upon us. Despite COVID-19 and all the misery it brought us.

How are you all going to get through the holidays as they approach? Are you giving in, as usual, to have a clothed festive season? Are you the lucky one who’s always had the opportunity to Ho-Ho-Ho in the nude?

So much is different now, and this isn’t different.

My Christmas will be quite a lot of the usual. A quiet day, as naked as possible at home, and dinner at my sister’s place. That will be clothed affair, but that’s okay. It’s once a year and she likes to make ‘a fuss’ of such dinners.

There won’t be a crowd (just her, her daughters and me) so that’s easy as well.

I’ll leave it at this. If you care to share your plans, please do.

Ho ho ho.

WYSIWYG

Remember when WYSIWYG was hot?

What is WYSIWYG ?

It’s probably mainstream now, but when computers were young and not so powerful, it was stunning to type and immediately see how it would look.

What You See Is What You Get.

Wysiwyg.

A few days ago I realised that this is the very same thing with nudists, naturists, clothes-free people and other denominations that prefer not to be dressed.

Sunday Nudist

What you see is, indeed, what you get. Just the real person, with all its wobbles, welts, bruises, scars and smiles. Tanlines and all, that’s the real person, right there.

No need to use any prettifying stuff like hats, ties, scarves, skirts, pants, shirts and what-not. We’re real. Which, again, proves that the other world, the textile realm is more fake than people would think.

Clothes for keeping warm

Sensible. Going out in the snow and ice, freezing several parts off and getting hypothermia doesn’t sound smart. But is that a reason to keep fifty different kinds of the same piece of clothing, in different shapes, fabrics, colours and so on? You can wear only one at the same time (okay, some people like to overdo it. Please send shots of men wearing 2 pairs of trousers and ladies wearing a skirt over their dress).

And yes, diversity is good, but running after the fashion gods who are after your money is something else.

Stay naked, people. Be yourself. I want to see what I get, not the fake dream that someone tries to put out there.

Have a good one.
