Lately I notice how more and more proud people feel the need to be nude in a picture with their legs spread wide. Just now I saw 2 shots like that, called "Chilling". When I look at those images, I can't imagine that the pose this gentleman holds is comfortable. It strikes me as 'hey look, even my penis is nude'.

Sure, fine. Mine is too, but 2 different shots in different (again, to me uncomfortable) positions to make it clear you're nude and your penis too, on full display?

I wonder why this need is there? I've also seen plenty of down-up shots, prominently displaying a naked penis again, with the rest of the person somewhere in the distance.

I wonder why this need is there? Can't we all be a tad more creative in nude shots? I wrote about this a few times before (here and here).

Apparently it's difficult to convince people you're fully nude without throwing in dingle and dangle prominently in the picture.
