Yoga (part 2)

I'm still examining options.

The "Down Dog" phone application (yes, let me write out the full word, instead of 'app', because I do things like that,) is very well done, amazingly clear and easy to follow.

Instructions, sound, video, all kinds of options to set, are great.

Doing them is hard. Really hard. I set it up on the beginner level, but I could do with a few settings lower than that.

Me, trying nude yoga
Of course I want to do this without clothes. Clothes always get in the way; they're mainly cumbersome, and a lot of the yearly time they're not needed. We know that.

But as you can see, the start of a yoga session is to sit up, relaxed, cross-legged, and calming your breathing.

This is already a struggle. This image shows me doing my best to achieve that position. It's not relaxing, it's not in any way doing something with a calm breath and... well... maybe I need something else. I'll page through other options in the phone program a bit, and see if there's something in there that's actually relaxing for me. At this moment, a brisk walk is more relaxing than trying to hold that position for more than fifteen seconds.

Person folded double
I also encountered something like this. The advice was 'go as deep as you can, even if you can only touch the ground with your finger tips'. I could easily reach my knees, so I counted that as a success.

Being in the 'second youth' generation comes with its advantages, but also with some battle scars, and most of them aren't visible. Lower back, shoulders, and other parts of my body aren't up for this kind of gymnastics yet, if ever. And yes, I know, it's all a process to get from nowhere to somewhere, but starting on this journey, and feeling like it's already a big stroll uphill to get to nowhere...

2 people doing chair yoga
Update on that. Instead of doing sit-on-the-ground yoga, I gave chair yoga a try. Yes, laugh if you want. I found that works a lot better for me. No strain, no fear of keeling over, no sore shoulders. And still enough to gain from it, because there are still lots of poses and things I can't reach.

A good start for me, who is not made of plastic and rubber bands. And it's in the Down Dog application. Win. 👍

Even better, it's possible to watch it on their website, so a big monitor instead of a small phone screen.
